I was at the office when I received a text from my sister “Neng, may kumakalat na cancer cell sa bones ni PAPA”, my initial feelings was like any other person who receives a bad news…DEPRESSED.
As I recall my childhood, my father was a bit strict, things that he says should be done like sleeping in the afternoon, studying very hard especially math (he’s good in math), eating vegetable, not staying late at night, etc. These are just some of the rules he had when I was a kid. During my teenage years some rules were added and changed, we are not allowed to enter relationship unless we finished our studies! At that time, I feel as if my rights were taken from me, as if he is dictating all the things that I need to do, but I proven it wrong. As a grown up, it was made clear to me that all the so called “rules” were just for my own good, I am not where I am right now if he was not that a “little strict” if I may say. He is one of the few persons who encouraged me to work hard, reach my dreams and so it happened!
Working in a foreign country while being aware that one of your family members is unwell is distressing, there comes a day that I desire to be with my family so we could support him emotionally but too bad I can’t, all I could do right now is to pray that God would extend his life so we may perhaps meet again.
He is not perfect; he too has lots of short comings, wrong actions, faults but these things does not equal compare to the things that he did for our family.
As of this time, doctors have not found what’s the type his cancer but one thing’s for sure, cancer cells were found on his bones and it’s already stage 4. My family decided for him not to go through chemotherapy because we have seen persons who suffered more when they go through chemo.
For those who are reading this, I asks for your prayers that God would heal him, extend his life and provide us financially so we may possibly buy the medicines he needs which is quite expensive. He is in a very much serious condition but we know that he is determined to survive.
His life is in the hands of God, whatever happens I know that God has a purpose….
Jeremiah 11:29
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope”
